Stuck in the means

The clock ticks loudly
in her white sterile office
paid to fill a seat
it's how she makes ends meet

getting rent in on time is a necessity
and she pays her fee by sitting

she's stuck in the means
waiting for the end
the infinite inbetween
that lasts from morning till evening
where are her 24 hours
how did she get here
never where she wants to be
stuck in the means

he rides his bike across town
wearing an apron covered in grease
a chef at three restaurants
to provide for his family

though his hands prepare food all day
his mind stays on his children
and the 20 minutes he gets
before putting them to bed

he's stuck in the means
waiting for the end
the infinite inbetween
that lasts from morning till evening
where are his 24 hours
how did he get here
he's never where he wants to be
stuck in the means

some people take a bike to work
others take the subway
every economic class
has a means of transportation
how should i go to work
how long should it take to get there

stuck in the means
waiting for the end
the infinite inbetween
that lasts from morning till evening
where are 24 hours
how did we get here
never where we want to be
stuck in the means
